Most competitive athletes understand the physical and technical aspects of their game very well, but few understand what role emotions play in their athletic performance. Over the last 20 years, neuroscientists have made monumental progress in understanding the connection between the mind, body, and emotions. This new information is having a major impact on how top athletes train for peak performance.
In a nutshell, the new brain science proves that peak performance is as much about physiology as it is about psychology.
When you practice, compete, or play your sport at any level, you experience emotion. Emotions are not just “feelings,” they are chemicals inside the body that are released from the hypothalamus, a tiny gland in your brain. Positive chemicals, such as excitement, happiness, fun, enthusiasm, passion, and joy strengthen your mind and body as they are released. Negative emotions, such as anxiety, fear, doubt, and anger, trigger the “fight or flight” mechanism in the sympathetic nervous system, and the negative chemicals released settle in cell receptors throughout your body. This can cause a lack of focus, loss of confidence, loss of fine motor skills, injury, and fatigue just to name a few! If you deal with nerves during the pressure of competition, you may have been told that you need to improve your mental toughness. This is where the new science comes in. If you are trying to deal with a challenge such as performance anxiety on a psychological level only, it’s likely you are not having as much success as you’d like because the problem also needs to be addressed at the physiological level.
Now the good news! There is a way to address the complete inner game with a leading-edge technique being used by professional and amateur athletes around the world for improved sports performance!
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques®) is a very effective self-help tool used by athletes at all levels to improve performance. EFT, in conjunction with coaching, is a powerful system that helps athletes improve their athletic skills and perform well under pressure. My role as a Performance Coach is to educate athletes about EFT, teach them the techniques, and coach them as they master the skills they are putting into practice.
Athletes in my coaching program learn to: identify what’s holding them back, calm the anxious mind that distracts them from performing at their highest level, raise performance ceilings, and stop sabotaging their own performance.
I work with driven, goal-oriented athletes who are ready to take responsibility for their results.
The first step is a free evaluation by phone. We will discuss your goals and the issues you’re interested in resolving. I’ll ask questions, clarify your desired outcome, and make sure we are a good fit for one another before we begin. I will share with you how the program works, and answer any questions you may have. After I have gathered information from you, I’ll recommend the appropriate coaching program for your desired outcome. If you are a student athlete, I will include parents in our initial consultation.
Please Note: EFT is intended to be an addition to your training regimen. It is not meant to replace any coaching, conditioning, nutrition, health care, or any other therapy that adds to your athletic performance. Further Brenda Cordle is not a licensed healthcare professional. She is a Certified Emotional Freedom Techniques® Practitioner and offers EFT as a Performance Coach.
While Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still be considered to be in the experimental stage and thus IF YOU INTEND TO USE THESE TECHNIQUES, YOU MUST AGREE TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF WHILE APPLYING THESE TECHNIQUES. EFT is not intended to replace any relationship with a qualified health care professional and is certainly not intended as medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are under the care of any health care professionals (or should be), we strongly encourage you to discuss modifications in your diet, lifestyle, exercise program, nutrition, or use of EFT with them prior to making any changes, and never discontinue or reduce prescription medications without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
